RevDem Debate: Rainbow families in the EU: obstacles to full equality

This debate is based on a report „Obstacles to the Free Movement of Rainbow Families in the EU” written for the European Parliament by Alina Tryfonidou (Neapolis University Pafos), one of the most renowned expert on the topic. The study examines the hurdles that rainbow families (same-sex couples, with or without children) face when they attempt to exercise their free movement rights within the EU, including examples from petitions presented to the Petitions Committee of the European Parliament. The author will present the main ideas of her report, which will then be commented on by Ivana Isailović (University of Amsterdam) and Dimitry Kochenov (Central European University) who will also chair the meeting.

Ivana Isailović is Assistant Professor of EU law at the University of Amsterdam. She is co-leading the project on Gender & Private International Law at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law in Hamburg.

Dimitry Vladimirovich Kochenov leads the Rule of Law Workgroup at CEU Democracy Institute and teaches at the Department of Legal Studies.

Alina Tryfonidou is Professor of European Law at Neapolis University Pafos and Visiting Professor of Law at the University of Reading
