Review of Democracy Assistant editors –  Call for applications  

Review of Democracy (RevDem) is happy to announce a new internship opportunity! 

Background: 

The Central European University’s Democracy Institute (CEU DI) is a research institute that studies issues related to democratization and re-democratization around the world.  Based in Budapest, Hungary, the CEU DI is embedded in a worldwide network of affiliated academic institutions.  

The Review of Democracy (RevDem) is the online journal of the CEU DI, which publishes articles and podcasts on topics related to democracy around the world. RevDem’s main areas of interest include the history of ideas, political economy and inequality, the rule of law, and the relationship between democracy and culture.

Role of the assistant editors: 

RevDem is looking for assistant editors to expand the geographic and sectoral reach of RevDem. We seek applicants dealing with problems of democracyin the Global South (Africa, South Asia and Latin America). The new assistant editors will work closely with the editors of various RevDem sections and will contribute/produce pieces to be published with topics from their broad geographical region. We are encouraging candidates from Africa, Asia, and South America to submit applications for the present call.   

 Specifically, the assistant editors will be expected to: 

This is a voluntary position with no fixed workload, based on availability. Assistant editors are welcome to participate in the training provided by the CEU Demoracy Institute. Working at RevDem will help candidates to get experience and contribute to the work of an online academic journal, participate at weekly editorial meetings and suggest new content, learn to conduct high-level interviews, work on critical book reviews, and write op-eds. They will also have the possibility to expand their own research interests and geographical expertise and help organize events.  

At the end of the Academic Year 2023-24 the best three interns who have contributed through high quality academic work to RevDem publications (articles, podcasts, Op-Eds) will be awarded (June-July 2024).
